WIJ HOUDEN VAN BIO KATOEN - The Driftwood Tales

It is often said that bamboo clothing is more environmentally friendly than cotton. That's true. But organic cotton is a completely different story.

"Normal" cotton uses way too much water and is full of pesticides to maximize yields. Organic cotton, on the other hand, requires much less water (due to rainfall-based irrigation systems) and does not use pesticides.

Step 1 = buy organic cotton.

Step 2 = where does that cotton come from? We consciously choose to source our cotton production in India. Because there (among other things due to the strict accreditation of GOTS) we have a better insight into the origin of our organic cotton and the conditions of the farmers. Because that also makes a sustainable brand.

Step 3 = have paint bath. Do you have a sustainable raw material (for example organic cotton), but nothing is said about the dye bath? (as some of our colleagues deliberately don't). Then you can still have a dishonest and chemical piece on your hands... Make sure your garment has been processed in a factory that takes into account chemical-free dye baths, sustainable water recycling and working conditions.

Step 4. Who makes my clothes? The GOTS certificate is a good indicator for all these steps. GOTS checks from cultivation to end product. Do you have that certificate in your clothes? (As we have with all our products from India) And is there also a number? Then you're all right. You can also trace the factory via their site.
